Brakes on BMW 3 Series E90

So yea its that time of the mileage again to have this baby serviced. Call ahead for a quote : "Roughly 6 grand for major service and brakes". Not bad im thinking. Take her in. "Ok so brakes and a major services comes down to R13,000".. wth. Left the brakes out. Now i have only a major service for 6k. Fun. Does new front and rear brakes really cost R7,000 these days? Anyone know where i can have them replaced for a better price would be greatly appreciated.

Any tyre fitment center that does brakes as well, you could even purchase the pads yourself and have them or yourself fit it.

Awesome thx. I was wondering if i should try and get some breaks through some contacts and just have someone fit it properly. Why people phone ahead for quotes and get screwed i cant really understand. Guess its the same old mechanic stereotype, best of all this was a very respectable place.

remember to get new sensors as well, if i recall it is one back left and one back right.

The quoted price might also include discs - if they are worn below min. spec specified by BMW the franchise workshop would have to replace them.

If not, R7k for pads & fitment only is a bit of a laugh...

knowing bmw workshops R7k for brakes and fitment is the norm

also say his discs are worn he could very likely have them skimmed once.

R7k for both discs and pads is quite reasonable.

Skimming is not advised on these cars. If the discs are even slightly warped after skimming, you will end up damaging your suspension bushes with the vibration.

Surprising BMW parts are not that expensive for serviceable items. If you're in JHB, try TuneTech (www.tunetech.co.za). They are very reasonable with their labour and use OEM or equivalent parts only.

I had my front disks and pads and rear pads replaced 2 months ago and buying the parts myself it all only set me back about R3000 roughly. Got the new disks and pads from Pirate Motor Spares and had them all fitted at a Hi-Q.
