Picked up my brand new car on Friday (last week). On my way to work this morning, I noticed a shudder, everytime I brake. The shudder is not a physical shudder, just a sound..wonder what it could be.

Will take it in asap for a checkup, it has only done 400kms :p

+1 for run them in.

Also do NOT brake hard (if you can avoid it) for this 1st couple hundred kilos you will 'glaze' the pads (hard braking heats them up cooking the resin thus creating a hard; slick surface) rendering them noisy and dangreous... run them in nice and easy.

It will depend on the kind of vehicle it is, as well as the amount of time it spent in storage (read dust/mud/rain infested carport structures next to the R21).

If it was in storage for a while, there will be some dirt/rust on the disks

Will do, but am also taking it in for a check up 2morrow...just in case

Yes, it was in fact in storage for a few months, which is why I suspect dirt, but could also be rust as you suggested.
Its a top end german car - well above 200kW

Typical of Opels !!! Had a corsa that did that...

It's nothing to do with a Opel, it's the type of brakes you fit, if you fit cheap **** they'll make that loud screeching noise. Can also be caused by dust or if a pad/disk is near the end of it's life it also makes that sound. Opel's still just use the same caliper with pistons that ANY other car uses. It's you the buyer that decided to put pad x or disc y on the car.

Oh its a Slowpel... You dont need brakes lol!

LOL! You fanboys are so funny.

If it's just the sound then you don't need to worry about it, if you can feel it through the pedal or steering wheel you've warped the disks.

You aren't supposed to go ape **** on brakes the first 100km's or the heat warps the disc causing it to shudder. Once it's warped you'll have reduced braking ability and reduced disc life.

Things that will cause overheating are coasting the brakes and braking like you're doing the Indy 500.

Will happen on any car regardless of model or brand, what does make a difference is the discs and pads that are fitted to the car.

Just got the word back from the workshop...they told me to drive it in for the first 1000km, before they do a check up again (if necessary).

My wife picked up my car, and therefore drove the first 100km ...need to have chat with her to see if she wasnt too heavy on he brakes. :erm:
