Brandy lovers thread

I am partial to a snifter of Fish Eagle and coke during winter. Goes very well after a nice curry.

I normally stick with KWV and Richlieugh 10 yr old. But I have decided to expand my brandy horizons. So far so good, the Blaauwklippen 8 yr old is a smooth brandy.

I used to substitute cognac in cooking and cocktails with KWV 5 yr old.
However, since discovering ABK6 Single Estate VS cognac things have improved remarkably.

hey all, so I have just started dipping my feet into the world of whisky and realised maybe I like brandy but never tried anything proper/neat. Any recommendations in the world of R400-R600. I don't know what I like yet as I do like bourbon, scotch, islay and irish.

KWV Imoya...
you will never touch whiskey again.... especially in winter :-)

Check a few posts back. I made a list.

Between the KWV 12 and van ryn 10 might be a close call. I have favourable memories of the KWV. Klipdrift can be drunk neat, but you won't feel bad about some ice or coke

I'm fond of most South African brandies, almost always drink them neat. On the low end some have a meths taste (Klipdrift & Wellington), but Martell & Oude Meester is always good, Oude Meester Demant is great, KWV 10 also. Portuguese Brandies are in a different league, Maciera is good, Brandy 1920 exceptional. Some of the cheaper aguardente brandies are also interesting. French brandies and Cognacs are good, but IMHO way overpriced.

I also enjoy a good Grappa.

That is a great price.

I love drinking it equal parts brandy and coke with big ball of ice in a tumbler.

That proportion is too much for me, I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to volume drinking. I can do maybe 4-6 brandies then I tap out, if I don't then I either drop a pizza, or I will have flu like symptoms the next day.

Musgrave Crafted Spirits, best known for its pink gin and as one of the first local brands to launch premium craft spirits, is taking on the brandy category with the launch of two new products - Musgrave Copper Vanilla and Musgrave Copper Black Honey.

Both infused pot still brandies, the Musgrave Copper launch is the result of a collaboration with Distell and its multiple-award-winning brandy brand Van Ryns.

Musgrave Crafted Spirits founder Simone Musgrave, explains her decision to enter the premium brandy category; “Building Musgrave Crafted Spirits means not only disrupting traditional categories, but also aligning with the best in the business. We were approached by the SA Brandy Foundation who are driving innovation and transformation in the premium brandy sector. This particular category has been struggling for some time now with relevance and needed re-energising. After delving into trend research, this felt like the right move.”

Musgrave then engaged with Distell and its expert team from Van Ryns to assist with the development and supply.
