Brandy lovers thread

Yeah I take that back now :X3:

If only I had know at the time that some of them were to be discontinued e.g.

Oh my hat! I had no idea it was discontinued!
I guess the Klipdrift Black Gold were also not that popular?

Does anyone know if they will ever do a special edition Klipdrift Legend again?

I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time to grab a couple of bottles of the first and second releases.
The first release stuff (I think) and the Klipdrift Gold I bought on that holiday is still untouched and I will probably never ever touch them as they are forever linked to the saddest/worst experience of my life.

Yip. I did not realize it either until a few months ago. I guess there might be a one horse town somewhere that still has one in their local liquor store :(

It was a blend between older and newer and older releases and if I remember correctly the older ones were "up to" 25 years old making it a bargain at the time.

I had a bottle of the Black Gold once and it was nice. But when I tried to buy another one it was gone as well.

I just realised these two brandies are now my most expensive in a very bare bones collection:

I definitely did not pay the above prices.

You don't say.
I recently found this thread and it awakened my dormant need for collecting some more, but boy, have the prices of things gone up. :X3:

Ok, I knew it went up because KVW 10 is still my favourite and that went up quite substantially if you compare to only a few years ago. But the more exotic stuff has really become expensive.

The Richelieu 10yr labels have changed. It actually went from looking premium to looking like a cheap brand. Sorry for photo quality. New label on the left.
Agreed. I had the original label one, then lockdown hit and I drank a couple of bottles my collection, one of which was the 10 year, knowing that I will replace it.

After lockdown I had to settle for the newer label. Mega disappointed in the label. So much so that I still haven't put in my display cupboard. It still sits on the secondary shelf elsewhere. /spit

The old label bottle is kept for display, new one is for drinking. Same with my Van Rijn 10 year old, the old one is for display and the new label for drinking.

Love a good brandy.

Floating around Serbia at the moment and popped into one of their distilleries in Belgrade yesterday. Had a tasting of Quince, Williams pear, Plum, Apple rakija.

Picked up a bottle of their 8 year old barrel aged Branko plum one to bring back - really beautiful drink. My understanding is it's their own oak used to make the barrels.

I do think this somewhat belongs here instead of creating a new thread.

At 400 zar odd a bottle - quickly popped back for a second bottle. Would kick myself not getting another one.

And.....?
Your opinion.
Worth it?
Just had a quick taste. The "higher" ABV hits you at first. Someone else who tasted it also said the same thing.

But afterwards you get a lovely rich flavour and you can tell it has been aged a few years. Will have to spend some more time with it before making a final call :)
