Kayafm breakfast show host Bob Mabena has been arrested after he protested the alleged defacing of the national flag on a building in Booysens, Johannesburg.

The incident occurred during the first hour of Mabena’s show this morning.

It is believed Mabena was alerted to the alleged defacing by a caller, following which he told listeners that he was going to protest on the M1 highway.

Minutes later, he was arrested by members of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

The defaced flag is believed to be exposed still.

As I was driving to work I was listening to his show and at first I thought we were being pranked.
It seems this dude is serious...

Has anyone seen the offending flag? Sorry I come from the north of Jozi

1. So was he arrested whilst doing his show??????
2. How did Metro Police get there so fast????????

It makes no sense, sounds like a prank or a setup.

No he was apparently arrested while protesting on the M1 highway. I am assuming it was in the vicinity of the Crown Mines Interchange. From what Fudzy posted, that is where this Docu Warehouse company is located just off the M1 South. It wouldn't have taken him long to get there seeing that Kaya FM studios are nearby in Newtown.

When I tuned into the show he had already left and a replacement did the rest of the show. Maybe it's a publicity stunt I don't know.

Even though he has not been a DJ for some time, Bob has never really left radio. He has been in charge of SABC's commercial stations Metro, 5FM and Goodhope FM. He recently moved to Kaya FM as the breakfast anchor. But yeah you would think he would have moved on like the likes of Romeo Khumalo who is now a big shot at Vodacom.

BTW did you guys know that the IDOLS judge (Randal Abrahams) is also on Kaya FM? I guess it's the station for the more mature listener.

Must say I never knew what this Randal's claim to fame was. Mature listeners you say? How do you explain Phat Joe (before he got fired as usual)? More like a retirement home for washed up has been jocks if you ask me.

I guess the old 'Pac fan just couldn't cut it in the corporate world;)

What does that have to do with defacing of the flag.
You get flag paint another picture on flag = defacing of flag
You get Rhino butt paint flag on rhino butt = defacing of rhino butt :D

You've got to be kidding, right? Our current hybrid multi-colour y-fronts flag is so similar to many other flags. Come to think of it, so is our current anthem. Not that I was particularly for or against our old flag, but it was *our* (ie: all of us seffricans) old flag. Politics got in the way again. As usual.
