Breaking news - doctor strike

correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't an offer already made last year? that was accepted already? Why did they have to go through all the process of making a new offer? Just pay the damn doctors already! :mad:

That's not 60% across the board, but still great news, as long as it is not an empty promise or on condition of some other pipe-dreams...

Fat lot of good that does - they strike as a last resort, particularly in their industry. Have you not been listening to the interviews with the doctors lately? Evidently not.

What I find deplorable is that the money was quite clearly available, as they surely didn't just rub the magic money lamp and out popped the money-genie. I find this attitude that one must strike to have your voice heard or for things to change for the better to be absolutely pathetic. There are two sides to this story: medical profession who do it out of desperation and taxis for example who do it as a form of ransom against the government to get their own way, desperation or not.

The guavamint needs a wake up call - this toll-free number to Jacob and co. isn't the answer - that's just a smoke-screen. They need to learn to be pro-active instead of reactive. Why must things fail completely before the issues are dealt with? Why must infrastructure collapse? Why must our public servants strike? Why must SA Joe Soap be held to ransom for the sake of making something better? Pathetic if you ask me...
 
Good news, doctors need to be payed more, end of story.

I'm assuming blaze you have no idea what these doctors go through right for very little money right?

Yeah....hope they accept the offer. My wife is a doctor...been with her since she first started studying...and she is now almost half way through her Comm service year (final year working for Gov). If only you guys knew first hand how bad things in SA are for doctors in the public sector. I have heard and seen it all first hand (the insult of a "salary" they get and seen what conditions they work in)....and feel for all doctors, so I know exactly what this means for them. Its waaaay over due! This will make a huge difference!

Unfort they missed the point a bit....cos its not just about the pay....its the terrible working conditions that form a big part of what they are striking about too. I pray this does not get forgotten!

PS: Unless you know what you talking about....keep your uneducated fire the doctors comments to yourself.
