Using a towel trick is like adding fuel to a fire. Wrapping up an already overheated xbox is going to cause catastrophic meltdown.

lol mate i know but i dont have the necessary tools (cooling compound, washers and clamps) to do a permanent fix now. the towel trick is a temporary fix and no matter how much more fuel its adding , it gave me 3 hours of gameplay last night .its a proven temporary fix and it works 1000% .

its real frustrating but the rrod is not the end of the wall and i dont have any warranty so im screwed either way

Actually, open it up to have a look at what you did to the board with the towel trick.

Thermal paste, washers and screws is not a permanent solution, just an aid.

BGA reflow (long lasting) and GPU/CPU re-ball (permanent) is a better bet!

Is this what you do maestro? My Xbox is in the post this week :D

BGA reflow at the moment, re-ball end of the year or early next year.

The equipment for BGA rework is pricy so I'm putting money aside and importing bit by bit from overseas.

Watch this space ;)

Example video of rework: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfPS62fOpy8"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfPS62fOpy8[/ame]

Not busy with fun and games ... this is serious work! Won't go into much more detail as I've already given too much info :D

What can be said is that this equipment isn't found at Part-serv, Power Care or Core ... let alone your local 'console repair shop'.

FIFA 2010 is going to be epic ... from the previews I've seen.

A working Xbox 360 is going to be paramount ;)

Nope only at every reputable electronics component suppliers. Nothing major to import or use, just need to get the correct one.

Uhm ... ja .. IAP is this advice or sarcasm? Hard to tell ;)

Well the month I've had with the post office strike means buying this equipment is being pushed back.
I had to courier all parts due to clients not 'wanting to wait' for airmail like I usually get my parts, which threw out my budget quite a bit. Mostly PS3 lenses and optical blocks which aren't cheap to begin with. September was a loss really

O well ...
