Just put my Corsair AX650 and my 6870 in today.
And who would have thought, nothing displays on the screen.

PC starts up, its posts (diagnostic LED's show everything is good) but nothing shows up on the screen.
GPU fan spins at 100% and does not slow down, even when in windows (can hear the windows start up tune)

Try different PCI-E power cables, same problem. Toss in my super stuffed 4870x2 and it works fine.

Anyone else have any ideas for me to try.

EDIT:My PC: DFI LT X48-T2R
PC 2: Some generic motherboard in a Dell PC.
PC 3: MSI K9AG Neo2 (I think)

The reason i think its my motherboard is that DFI has had CRAP GPU support with this motherboard. Originally my 3870x2 didn't work at all with the board, sold it and got an 8800GT.
Then my 4870x2 didn't work with it at all, had to do a BIOS update. And now since DFI have gone down under i don't expect a BIOS update from them. Plus the motherboard is doing funny things, the PC won't turn off unless i hold the power button and both the network ports are buggered. So i think its on its way out.

Can you test the card in another pc? Boot into safe mode. Then uninstall your gpu driver or pop the old card back in completely remove the drivers and any overclocking utility you might be using with it then pop the new card in and try again

Can't test it in another PC this weekend. Not sure if its the drivers as it won't even display the BIOS boot image.

You say it works grand when the old card is in right? Now put the old card back in remove the drivers. Go to guru3d.com and download driversweeper to aid with that. Remember to uninstall your monitors drivers as well when your done pop the new card in and give it a go. Remember to remove Msi Afterburner and all those oc utilities as well.

Btw is it a new card? Sounds like it died. The card needs to initialize first before it can regulate temperature and adjust the fan speed. Yours doesn't initiate. You can also try cleaning the contacts. Can you see any bulging caps on them?

Have you checked that you have both of the power connecters into the card? You could also check your monitor if you are using a different output on the two cards eg. hdmi/vga/dvi and make sure the monitor knows what to use.

Edit : Oh if you psu has more then one 12v rail try taking one 6 pin connector from two different rails. (Checking your psu specs, seems it has one 12v rail so just make sure both cables are very snugly connected to both the psu and the gfx card.)

It indeed works fine with the old card. I will do the driver thing, but still not sure how it can be drivers when the monitor does not come out of standby.

Its a brand new card taken out of the box today.

Yeah, i checked that. Problem is the PC exhibits the EXACT same behaviour with and without the power cables plugged into the GFX card. Kind of leading me to think that it is faulty in some way. And the PSU just has 1 rail.

return it its faulty. Was probably used in the world cup by the workers as the lunch time ball or it dropped on the wrong side when it fell of the boat.

With psu rails don't matter. Rails mean just there's a OCP chip monitoring it. With 2 rails there's 2 OCP chips. They normally do it with the big 750w and up psus to get a better efficiency and that sorts.

Going to try test it in another PC today. Will report back.

EDIT: Just tried the DVI -> VGA adapter and HDMI and still no signal going to the monitor :(. It must be poked, the fan stays spinning 100% all the time also.

I'm afraid to say its your gpu. The gpu initialize first then its bios will set it to the lowest speed settings programmed in its bios to make sure it always boots. Then the drivers will join in and set it to a 2d mode with higher clocks. Your gpu doesn't initialize at all which mean its a buggy card? Maybe a damaged slot but the other gpu works fine in it so rule that out. Or the connectors that goes in the PCI-e slot maybe dirty. Did you try and clean it like you would do with ram? Rubbing it with a eraser? If after still problems. Wrap it up and return it. Gpus warranty is there for a reason. Your card shouldve displayed at first go.

Well i even tried it in a different slot. And still no joy.
Will give it a quick clean now.

it that doesn't work return it. You still got a warranty on it right?
Bash some buttons on the xbox in the meanwhile till you can get it swapped for another one. These things happens. Newegg are filled with rma's. But they just return it no questions ask lol

I should bloody hope its got a warranty, as i said i only got it on Friday :p.

kewl because some people buy them 2nd hand. Gotta ask lol
Like buying a lucky packet

One question though. What is wrong with the 4870x2?

My 4870x2 has a faulty memory chip. Artefacts, bluescreen, blackscreen and random restarts, all in just an hour!
Once i get a work GFX card i will chuck the 4870x2 in the over and see how that works out.

:(, just tried it in another PC. And it no work :(

6870 =
