Okay so here we go....

Yesterday my phone started experiencing a lot of force closes of the com.android.phone process. This isn't the first time a program started acting up so I thought I'd just do what I always do when force closes start happening and do a factory reset which always seems to do the job (at least for a while i.e. a month or two). So I do this and all is well. But I start thinking that the force closes are starting to get really annoying and that a re-flashing of the ROM is in order. I research the matter a bit and it seems a clean-flash is in order so I google "guide to clean flashing" and the first result (this one) appears to be exactly what the doctor ordered. I backup all the essentials, make sure that the ROM.zip file is on my SD card and proceed to do the wipes as explained by the aforementioned guide. Everything goes smoothly, and I prepare myself to do the install.zip function. However, I find that I cannot boot into recovery. In fact, I can't boot at all. Whenever I try booting it just takes me to the startup screen and hangs there. Forever.

When I plug in the charger it just shows the small loading circle but it doesn't go into the green battery screen. I dunno what I could've done wrong. DId I make some glaringly obvious mistake somewhere? Or does wiping /boot literally mean that you're wiping the bootloader or something? Thankfully my phone is still able to enter download mode and I've heard that your phone will always be salvageable if this is the case. Odin is ready on my PC and I'm of the mind to just try and redo the whole flashing thing from the VERY beginning. However I first wanted to consult the experts before I proceed just in case I end up fsking up my device further into seven hells.

So, any ideas as to what I should do?
Please? Anyone?

If you can get to download mode your sgs is not bricked. Flashing a full rom with odin (including repartition) will get you back up and running.

Otherwise if you made a nandroid backup before attemping to flash the ROM, you can just flash a CWM kernel to boot into recovery and restore.

I have done many stupid things with mine and have always been able to access recovery mode and flash with odin so you should be safe. If that doesn't work maybe dump it at your nearest voda/mtn/cellc shop and act stupid?

Sorry for the latish reply I just had to run off to the shops quickly

So you can't get into the recovery menu?

yes this is correct. I can get into download mode but recovery is a no go.

Unfortunately I haven't made a nandroid backup. Because of the force closes I sorta assumed that something must have gone amiss with the initial flashing and didn't wanna make a backup of the rom in a buggy state in case I ended up messing things up. So you'd recommend I just go ahead and flash away with Odin?

If flashing with Odin doesn't help then I guess I really have no choice but to take it to them.

So at this point in time I guess flashing with Odin is my best bet. Wish me luck guys. And thanks for the replies. :erm::D

Gosh I dunno why I stressed so much. Don't be fooled by my calm demeanour guys, I was practically crapping in my pants the whole time. However this experience has somewhat improved my confidence with regards to flashing new ROMs. Anyway thanks for the reassurance guys I don't think I would've had the cahonies to proceed had you not set my doubts to rest.
