Hi to All

Due to a network setup with an ISA server I have to set my ADSL router to Bridge Mode.

This worked fine till 3 weeks ago. Since then the ADSL routers does not allow to be configured to Bridge Mode. I even tried 4 different Routers, none works in Bridge mode.

I contacted Telkom but their reaction is that the Line is fine!

This used to work for the last 5 years!!

Any suggestions / help, PLEASE!!!

regards
R

Give us some info on the router you're using, make & model no. Bridge mode is not a Telkom issue if they didn't supply the router.

Did you perhaps swap out your ADSL modem, placed another router in the middle or changed your ADSL line to a specific ISP?

Hi Mates

I tried 4 different Routers (all new), none allows bridge mode connections
I tried different ISPs, none wants to connect in bridge mode (Telkom and Mweb).

It worked for many years! The telkom line went dead for 'n couple of days and when it came on again we had the problem.

I can connect from the router, but if I put the routers in bridge mode, no PC can connect using PPPoE. It used to work!

Sounds like your line went down and you played with the router settings before realising the fact.

Router make & model no are needed before we can assist.

D-Link DSL-2500U supports bridging and is cheap and easy to set-up.

It sounds to me like your ADSL modems aren't configured correctly.

Make sure that you're using the following bridge mode settings:
VPI: 8
VCI: 35
Encapsulation mode: RFC 1483 (LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING)

Hi Mates

Currently I have a Billion BiPAC 7300.
If I set it to Pure Bridge, VPI:8 and VCI:35 - LLC. No PC can connect from internal network with PPPoE
I tried the same settings on a two other Billion models, the same result
I also tried it on a GetNet GA-121A router, the same result

Hi Mates

Just to make sure. I tested it again. When I change the settings to Bridge mode and after saving, I restarted the modem. It then shows that the ADSL Link is down!
I then set it back to PPPoE and the modem connects after I restarted it, the Link is Up again!

RudiVV:
How do you know the ADSL link is down? Usually the ADSL modems have 2 lights:
one for Internet/PPP,
and another one for ADSL/DSL

In bridge mode, the Internet/PPP light will not go on, but the DSL one should go on.

Did you connected your PC's directly on the Billion PiPAC 7300 modem's LAN ports?

Lastly, try using the following PPPoE account credentials on your PC:
Username = guest@telkomadsl
Password = guest

Hi Pada

If you open the admin console from a browser is shows the link is down and the lights on the router also shows no adsl connection

Hi RudiVV,

Check if that ADSL modem has something like Dial on Demand, and make sure that it is DISABLED.

Perhaps your ADSL modem supports half-bridge mode, in which case the ADSL modem can dial its own PPPoE account, as well as allowing your PC's to dial their own PPPoE accounts. In this case, you can just dial that guest@telkomadsl account from your ADSL modem, so that you don't accidentally use another account's cap ;)

Regards,
Chris
