Bringing phone from USA.

My boet has a Blackberry Curve in the US and is moving back here. Will it work? I think we are on a different bandwidth???
 
It depends on the network - if the blackberry is GSM then it should work fine.
 
It could work but didn't they pass a new law stating that all phones in use in SA have to have the "icasa approved" sticker on them or they can be legally confiscated?
 
In my personal experience, no it will not work. I have an 8700c which I can only use in the US. Does not work in SA at all on any networks.

That's strange - the 8700c is quad band so it should work pretty much anywhere. :confused:

We went through T-mobile - besides being GSM they offer a flat rate for international use. :)
 
If it is locked to AT&T? What then?

It's network locked.

I'm on AT&T (former Cingular customer). The only way they can unlock it is if you enable international roaming, which I do not need because I have contract lines in South Africa as well. It's not a train smash for me personally but I wouldn't advise someone to bring a device here assuming it will work.
 
I've tried everything, even took it to Vodaworld, etc. Nothing can be done. There are some companies on the net demanding $30+ to get it unlocked.
 
This is the boet speaking. I use the phone often in Europe as well as here in the USA. Europe is GSM. I think that my problem will be the AT&T issue. It seems that At&T need to give me a code to unlock it. I will ask them and I expect to see some long faces when I do ask.

They'll only give you that code if your contract has expired.

I'm not sure many places offer Blackberry on PAYG - do they?

If you're going overseas regularly why not sign up for their inclusive international package or just take it for the short term?
