Back on topic: there was a similar incident of web rage a year or two ago, I think in East Asia somewhere. In that specific case some dude was actually murdered by a disgruntled online gamer.
 
But look, you can't blame the internet or chat rooms for that... that's just plain stupidity coming to the fore. It's your own damn fault if you tell people where you live n'all. Kinda like walking out on the street with a sandwich board around your neck that says:

"I live at 12 Dumbass Lane, Sandton."
 
Personally I reckon if we all gave our real names here, there would be less conflict and insults. Maybe all our cars should have our surnames on the number plate too and then there would be less road-rage.

Would cause the Metro Police to go bankrupt - unless they fined all of the Joneses and Smiths etc equally for the one that got caught on camera :p :D.
 
Looking over those posts on the South African National TV Broadcasters website, I have the feeling that either they really, really believe in free speech or they want to incourage a certain point of view.

Is the notion of anonymity the internet gives...
There are those who can use their noggin and a bit of tech to track you down. Also, people give out far too much info in this "anonymous" world. I can imagine the situation is aggrivated by being drunk for instance in front of the PC. People are far more savvy to this kind of thing when going out to a public place, etc.

Whould you (anyone) be posting any differently if your real name was attached. Why.. The online gamer was stabbed during a CounterStrike game. The stabber was just stabbed in the game when the eVictim became the Predator and the ePredator became the Victim..

Life does not have a reset button..
