Hi all

Myself and my girlfriend are expecting our first child in August and I want to find out if I can organise a British Passport for them when they are born. My father is British, born and bred, and holds permanent residence in South Africa with a South African work permit. I was born in South Africa but have a British Passport via my father and ham hoping to do the same for my child, if anyone knows if it is possible or allowable?

Nope. Go have the kid in the uk.
By birth only does 1 generation. The kid would need to go the ancestry route.

Probably not:

You were born outside the UK
British citizenship is normally automatically passed down one generation to children born outside the UK.

For example, you might automatically become a citizen if you’re born outside the UK to a British parent. But your children will not automatically be citizens if they’re born outside the UK.

If you’re not automatically a citizen, you may be eligible to apply to ‘register’ as one.

Check your eligibility if you were born:

That is what I thought, there is a way via double descent but only for those born before 1 January 1983 from what I have seen/heard.
