Anyone know of a British/English style pub in Johannesburg and surrounds? For those of you who have been to the UK you will know what I am talking about, for those who haven't it's usually some sort of double-barrel name (George & Dragon, Dog & Duck) or olde English style (Ye Old Cheshire Cheese, Kings Arms). Probably a dingy feel, without being too dirty. Beers on tap, preferably some imports (in this country, probably canned). Serves bangers & mash and Yorkshire pudding.

If anyone knows of somewhere along these lines in or around about the city please let me know. I'm not looking for anything commercial, definitely no franchises.

Thanks!

Dunno how english it is but I once went to a pub in the modderfontein area (think NE of Lakeside) that had a english feel to it. I think you had to walk down into it and it was kinda cramped/cosy. I enjoyed the place. maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about and can give you the name. I was part of a bigger/older building.

Not too sure if it's what you're going for, but there's the Buck & Hug in Emmarentia Extension, Irish Club in Roosevelt Park, the Jolly Roger in Parkhurst, Giles in Craighall and the Guild Hall in Joburg CBD.

Does O'Hagans still exist in South Africa???

I last visited an O'Hagans in 1996 in Stellenbosch in Bird Street.

Forgot about the Buck and Hog... maybe I'll have a look there. Thanks :)
