Broadband 2.0

Is R400 uncapped realistic?

I ask in jest, but also seriously.
One hopes that it would be in that region or at least a 300gig cap.

Since when did a 300gig cap become the reasonable reference point?
Providers overseas (which is normally what we compare against) have "unlimited" packages, which really mean, a 50gig - 80gig soft cap with "fair use policies" being implemented if you consistently break that.

TIA

I'm just trying to be realistic as far as the local market goes...
Heck that may even be too much for these telcomms companies...

lol.

Fair use policies overseas start at 200gigs.

U guys cant expect them to pull of a miricle overnight.
I think the point here is that even by relative terms Neotel's CDMA coverage rollout has been glacial to date. If memory serves me right both iBurst and Sentech (yikes!) expanded their coverage at a far more rapid rate (at least in the major metro areas).

What makes this even worse is that both these technologies have a far shorter range than low freq. CDMA, which required them to deploy far more towers.

FTTH debate

I think FTTH will make the same appearence as DSL first did. (selective metropol areas close to the CBD's at first) Expect from roughly march 2010. Key hubs have to be operational for the world cup. Other countries require HD more than we do,they've had it way longer than us... Or it's our name down the drain!! And you guys know how our country loves its SPORT!!!! So it will happen GUARANTEED!!!

'Telkom ... as long as the quality of the copper is good enough and the local loop length is short enough – typically less than 1.5km.'

Not something to rely upon eh? We all know how much South African's love copper. Take copper. Sell copper. Without a copper in sight.
