Hi all,

I have been struggling to find a decent option for Internet. Telkom is not available at my building, and they have said that it is not viable for them to install here.

I have physically tested all of the following connections, which either have very poor signal or do not work at all: Neotel, iBurst, Cell C, MTN, 8ta, Virgin.

The only thing that I have found that works (sometimes sporadically) is Vodacom 3G - but it is expensive. I am currently using 10 to 20 Gigs per month.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Many thanks

If you tell us where "here" is we might be able to help.

You may need to start figuring out where your local Neotel/iBurst/Cell C/MTN/... towers are located, and then start thinking about getting a antenna. My iBurst would be unworkable if I did not invest in a panel-antenna...

To put it like this:
I can play wow-eu with 300-600 ping. Local CounterStrike pings is 100-200. Dota2 is fine, I personally have less lag spikes on iB than on my MTN & Vodacom... but that is just where my house is located.
During the day I usually get round 30KB/s, late night 70KB/s; I cleaned my 50gigs cap by the 22nd last month... Actually my girlfriend did... #$% Vampire bull$%^&
Anyhow, without the panel... I get 3-7KB/s and allot of disconnects.

By the way, they recommend line-of-sight to the tower with this antenna, and I'm pointing mine into my neighbours double story...
the previous place had a 15meter sand dune between me and the tower...
the time before that I was bouncing my signal off of a 9 meter wall of into the opposite direction (got more lag spikes than now, and that’s the only explanation that made sense why I got relative good signal at that time xD).
Nobody can tell you if you are going to get a good connection, you'll have to test on-site... provided you have a tower on the same continent as you are.

You do get antennas for Cell C/MTN/... however, you need a modem that has a connection for it. If you know somebody that will borrow you the equipment, that would be great, else you will need to take a gamble.

Good Luck! :)
