 Hi all, I am really a dummie when it comes to this kinda stuff. At this moment I'm stuck with Virgin, but hell, it's not worth all the trouble. I know a little about 3G and HSDPA, but I dont know about adsl, iBurst, etc. If I dont use much data per month, maybe up to say 500meg maximum, what type of broadband is the best, if you consider price per month, price per meg, speed, reliability, and hassles. I'm not quite financial up to heavy packages, but maybe in the near future. Guide me please. Thanks

Telkom is hassle
Telkom also has speed and quality

Thats what I also thought, but what is the costs of adsl, including the line rental, and other monthly costs?

Good questions. What about the Mweb deal. They say it includes the ADSL rental.

Really good questions. I wanted to give him the hellkom ISP comparison, but it seems really outdated to me.

We need some comparison people to catch things up again ;)

Mweb does look the best I've seen so far. How are their service overall? I must say I really liked the idea of mobility, but I only have gprs here outside Benoni. I wonder if there was any way to boost 3G upgrade to a specific tower? I have a vodacom tower just across the street, but it only have crappy gprs. I emailed vc multiple times for 3g here, but why would they worry about me?

Very good actually, and for a new guy who doesn't know a lot about configuring and set up and all that, I think they'd be the best, much better than telscum to say the least ;)

I run Virgin gprs here in Olivedale, I get 80-100% signal strength when surfing my 'connection status', shows me there is zip being sent/received. I disconnect, reconnect and 'try again', 8/10 the page will then open!
Guys I do 15 to 30 repetitions every day, can anyone explain this to me? My phone is OK all day, so why not the data link, it is now just to much, and I will be giving up with Mr Branson, his next book title should be 'How to be a pound Sterling billionaire, by offering mediocrity, cleverly disguised by good marketing'
Does anyone have experince of hooking a 3G phone to a laptop? best network provider

Kieron123, that is the same problem I have. I stay connected most of the time, but the connection just go dead, nothing sent or received. I just wonder where is Gerald, I mean cant he just reply to all of our complaints? I emailed him a while ago, and just heard nothing. I wonder who else can we contact?

I think its also worth thinking about how you want to use your internet connection. If mobility is important to you than 3G is the best way to go, unless of course you haven't got good coverage at home.

ADSL is I would say the most reliable and in the future capable of the highest speeds.

Wireless (iBurst & Neotel) are good alternative to ADSL although I don't know what the reliability is like.
