im not very clued up on the whole broadband thing, but after reading that there are companies offering 3gb for R60, and my folks are paying +-R500 for 4gb? if i change my service provider to a company like screamer or afrihost, what other costs will be involved besides the amount paid for the data? (line rental etc) Are these service providers any good or will i sacrifice speed for a lower price? am i being ripped off being with DO broadband??

It would pay you to read as much as you can on this board in order to become better informed about the various offerings. But in short, this is the situation. Afrihost and MyISP (the R60 for 3Gb deal that you quote) are using the IS fibre backbone which is as good (if not better) than Telkom's SAIX backbone. The Screamer offering has had a few teething problems, but hopefully they will be fixed soon. I would not use them right now though until they get sorted out. But yes, there are better options out there than the Do broadband from Telkom (except that you get more local bandwidth from the Telkom deal - if you know how to use your local).
