Broadband for lower than R200?

Iburst would obviously say something like that to us. If ADSL becomes cheaper, iBurst are doomed as the only reason they even have customers is because they so cheap.

1. 50Mb Fibre optic line, unshaped and uncapped
2. Over a 165 Digital Tv Station + HD PVR
3. Telephone line with free calls over the weekend

FOR ONLY £56.50 a month (12 month contract)
Thats only R710 a month. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ITS A JOKE!!!!!!!

My Reality:mad:

1. 4Mb Hellkom line, shaped and capped 3gig R554
2. Dstv no pvr or hd R500
3. Only Line Rental, no Telephone... R150

For ONLY R1204 a month all Contracts 24 month
 
These articles keep on mentioning the price of bandwidth, more specifically, the price of international bandwidth. According to my internet bill, bandwidth is only one third of the total cost. Line rental makes up the rest.

It appears as if the cost of bandwidth is not the problem, but rather the guavamints monopolistic policies.

Proof?
Just a few years ago VoIP was still illegal in SA
Altech had to take (RIP) DoC/Ivy to court to allow businesses to build communications infrastructure
By how many years was the SNO delayed while guavamint was raking in profits from Telkom? I suppose they had to pay for Zuma's legal fees somehow.

At this rate, I will probably not live to see the local loop unbundled.

R200 for slow, low download limit broadband? Stroll on, that would be extortionate in the UK and most of Europe.

UK broadband, arguably amonst the most competitive in the world varies from FREE (bundled in with LLU phone services) to my ADSL2 service at R140 per month. That is for 16 mbps service with no limit on data download.

Err, one snag, the UK's parastatal was privatised in 1984 and the for low prices you need LLU. It didn't happen overnight. Until RSA privatises Telkom, which will allow the Regulator to get tough, you will continue to have some of the highest telecommunications costs in the world. Dream on....
 
3-4 years back www.access.co.za offered a broadband package of 30 gig's Intl. for sumthing like R130.00. Since Telscum up the broadband monopoly everything changed.

I'm sure they can still keep it way under R200.00

Good luck slipping that one by v3g. Users per tower, spectrum division and backbone whala-whala mode activated.

This raises the question as to how low broadband prices can go when networks start to attract hundreds of thousands or even millions of subscribers in South Africa.

A wise man predicted (not once but many a time) : 5c/MB OOB 3G HSPA should do the trick.
 
I don't mind paying a thousand bucks a month if I'm getting a 4Mb/s line,uncapped and unshaped,no thresholds and all that BS.
 
The price of international bandwidth is only one of the base costs of providing a broadband service, and lower international bandwidth costs are likely to mean higher bandwidth allowances rather than significantly lower broadband costs.

I'm sorry that my logical brain seems to fault here. I'm really confused.
From what I see the cost goes up the more International b/w you buy in a bundle or you are ripped off Rxx amount per gig over the bundle.
The allowance is directly tied into costs. They are directly proportional.

They don't need to up the taxes, just cull all the occurrences of theft of existing taxes and kill corruption .... If other governmnets can survive quite bloatedly - WITH black ops etc. in their budgets - then ours can too.
