Hi guys,
I use to chat a lot on the ICQ little while ago, or more precisely before I got iBurst. Few friends I regularly chat with asked me last few days why I am offline almost all the time and I appear only for few moments online every now and then ... and I told them: because I switched to broadband internet!
Well, most of my friends live overseas so they don't understand the irony of the situation in SA, they have real broadband connections for at least 2-3 years now and they have forgotten what that thing dial-up is.
I am really happy for them, but here in SA, until few weeks back I was happily using dial-up over the weekends, and it was performing great 99% of the time. It was disconnecting max once per weekend and all protocols were working 100% with no restrictions whatsoever. This was my happy time ... ahhh memories.
3 weeks ago some people told me that iBurst is great, works very well etc. etc. ... and I believed them. So I decided to switch so I can have internet connection 24x7, and I was happy agreeing to 64 Kbps speed limit after the cap, I don't really need some incredible speeds, as long as it is 24x7 and reliable I am happy. So I was expecting to have a 24x7 modem-like connection - nothing more, nothing less.
Yes but it did not work out. For the last 2 weeks, I have been unable to successfully use iBurst for anything but web browsing, almost none of the other protocols work properly. So today I had to resort even in using my laptop and my cell phone GPRS to do some actual work, while I was supposedly connected via broadband connection on my desktop pc.
I am cancelling my contract and moving back to dial-up. It is so much more reliable than this so called broadband. I waited until now hoping that somebody will do something and fix the problems, but after I read the management explanation (IT Web) of the account suspension crap few days ago, I don’t believe that ISP managed by people that don’t have a clue what Mbit is, will ever be able to provide anything even close to decent service.
So, that is it, I just wanted to share my view on the broadband in SA. I am absolutely shocked from the complete incompetence of iBurst staff, both technical and management, and I wish that their company go bankrupt very soon, before other unsuspecting customers get caught into this scam.
Thanks for reading.
