Broadband Speed

I made a mistake. It should read 1763kilobytes (download) and 387 kilobytes (upload)

Last Result:
Download Speed: 5169 kbps (646.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 324 kbps (40.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 324 ms

Paying for a 10MBS facility - getting half of that - does this not entitle me to a 50% rebate from Telkom?

Obviously bragging. He have a 14Mbps+ download and a 3Mbps+ upload speed. :)

Seems like Telkom is fixing or has fixed some of their issues. Since Saturday, I noticed that I'm once able to stream movies like I did before November 2013 when I couldn't do anything much during peak time (after 6pm at night).

I am not bragging. I joined this forum thinking I would get help. I am 76 years old and am having endless problems trying to speak to my grand children in Malaysia, as the call keeps dropping and the speech on the other side is distorted. I phoned Telkom so many times and they keep telling me that the internet speed is fine, while skype keeps saying "increase your internet speed". Since I am getting insulting responses from this forum I have decided not to be part of this forum anymore. You see, I have very little computer knowledge.

I'm sorry, Oom. No one was insulting you, but we were trolling (offtopic backchat). Apologies.

A slow connection can usually handle Skype quite well. My guess is latency, which might be from congestion at your exchange. If that is the case, then there is nothing you can do, but trying mobile internet.

My suggestion is to try a cheap account from a different ISP (internet provider) and see if that help. If it does, you're lucky and it's not congestion (too many users on at the same time at your Telkom exchange).

You can get an account from companies like Afrihost and Webafrica. I think you can even buy a cheap capped account from Pick n Pay.
