Howdy guys. I'm wanting a relatively high speed connection at my place, perhaps 2 to 3 meg line. I listen to mostly to www.di.fm/ during the weeks and like to download a few shows. I reckon I'll need probably 2gigs a month.

I'm just confused as to what I need exactly and whats the difference between adsl and broadband cause I thought they were the same but apparrently not, anyway which should I go for and what are decent providers to use, what do you guys use? :)

I think in the UK you guys have the option of either, ADSL generally goes up to 24mbps and BB goes higher than that.

Apparently you acn get 16mbps for as little as 30 quid a month.

Apparently Virgin BB is quite good.

Actually, ADSL IS a type of broadband. Broadband means a connection making use of a combination of frequencies to generate the correct signals required for high-speed data transmission. ADSL is such a connection. Anyway, 2Mbit connections in the UK are considered slow and were so even when I was there 4 years ago. For your 15 to 20 quid a month, you should realistically be looking at at least a 10mbit connection or so.

Have a look at this offer from Virgin http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/50Mb/product_pricing_and_tech_info.html

No llimits on downloads and the free phone calls more than make up for the extra costs. Of course you need to be in a cable linked area, but those are growing at an amazing rate. If you are not in a area that is cable linked get a couple of your neighbors, send an email to Virgin and pretty soon they will sort something out:)

My bad, need to change my location. I'm now living in Durban hehe moved back here about 3 weeks ago and feeling a little internet starved :D

Somebody mentioned getting adsl through Telkom. I have no clue though because when I left SA 14 years ago the entire country was still on dial up.

Anway some advice on local vendors would be most appreciated :)
