Hi

Ok i have had my Linksys for about 5 months and all has been perfect so far, today all the PC's connected to it just drop and tell me i have a network cable unplugged (no wireless connections at the time) so i check the router and the Power led is flashing and nothing is working. So i unplug it leave it for a bit and try again, nothing.
So i pull the adapter out the plug and it feels a bit warm, I get my multimeter and measure the voltages, Its giving 17v  should only be 12v. tried with another adapter(same voltages, measured 12v) and i get the same thing. so now the thing is broken. I am going to phone the supplier and check with them tomorrow.
Anyone have any idea's:confused:

I had a bricked WRT54G, couldn't even ping it.

I had to open up the thing and short two pins on the flash chip, to put it into recovery mode so that I could re-flash it with standard linksys firmware.

It works like a charm now. :D

Compl33t, Tibby.dude gave me the link to that, if the manufacturer wont swop it out i might have to give this a try, when yours was bricked was the power light the only thing that was flashing?

Bjorn - Just remember when you flash your WRT with non linksys firmware it voids the warranty.

if you have not flashed your WRT get it swapped out... if you have flashed it you better start hacking it.

Hi skydog,

No i still have the original firmware on, I was waiting for the warranty to expire before i flashed just incase this happened. i have phoned Uniterm and am taking it to them when i get a chance tomorrow. I just hope it doesnt get replaced by a version 5.

Actually, it looked like everything was fine. I just couldn't ping, or telnet or even log into the webmin interface.

After I shorted it, I could ping it, and in effect TFTP the original Firmware to it.

But, if you have the original Firmware on there and the unit is still under warranty, it's best to swop it out as skydog said.

drop an email to linksys and explain the problem in details and what you have done. Their support is outstanding, in less than 24 hours they will tell you how to fix it if it can be fixed.

Thanks swordfish, i have sent it back already. should find out later this afternoon, if they cant help me i will definately e-mail them

OK well they are sending it back to Linksys in the states, They have given me a loan unit in the meantime.
