Bromhof - The crappy speeds continue

On the off chance that Telkom is indeed telling the truth, I would like to know if anyone on the bromhof exchange is getting speeds of 3Mbits of more.
Since late Dec 2010, my speed has dropped to sometimes under 1Mbit.

I reported it, to Telkom, and after months of mucking about, I got some Telkom "genius" yesterday telling me that the exchange is congested, and that I should count myself fortunate to get anything over 1Mbit.

Is anyone getting decent speeds consistently ?

Some days, speedtest.net won't even load.
 
****en hell....I decided to get ADSL for gaming, I stay in Bromhof. They activated it on Monday, but I am yet to get any sync! The DSL light just flashes, I cant connect at all. I called every day so far with no joy! Thinking of canceling the entire bloody thing tomorrow!! :mad::mad:
 
i stay in Bromhof, i have 4 meg ? if that helps, i am however on the 793 exchange if that makes a difference !
 
I'm in Sundowner, Honeydew exchange. I have a 4mbs line and move of the time get 3.5mbs download speeds.
 
I'm in bromhof and I'm getting 10mb speeds.

Your problem could be related to a congested mini-exchange, or a old copper wire somewhere.

Bromhof with max speed of 6mbps. Currently sync'ed at 4096.

Sat on 500kb/s downloads last night no problem.

791 exchange. Im on Kelly road if that helps at all

I'm in Randpark area, very close to Bromhof.
We might be on the same exchange, because there has been a serious congestion issue.
A technician had a look and said there is nothing he can do, since the contention ratio on the exchange is too high.

I was on a 4096 and barely got 3kbps on my line most of the time. I have since downgraded to a 384k and I'm still getting atrocious speeds on it.

I had Netmeter monitor the download speed of a Steam update. (This is not browsing, but constant downloading)

That would be me. I'm in Randpark Ext 4. Most of my neighbours are geriatrics, so can't imagine they're using all the bandwidth. Speeds used to be excellent until Mod Oct 2010, and then the downward slide started.

Is there anything we can do about it ?
 
I'm on the 792 exchange with a 4M line. When I use a capped account (uncapped is throttled), I can get 350KB/s = at least 2.8Mb/s.
 
At our offices in bromhof we have multiple adsl lines on the 791 792 and 793 ranges the bromhof exchange is about 600 to 800m away.
we get 10 Mbps on the 792 and 4mbps on the 791 and 792

And speed tests via speedtest.net give us between 7.5 and 8.5 mbps on that 10Mbps line.

I was running on 6meg stable till 2 months ago in Bromhof. Now I have constant disconnects and speeds vary between 1.1 and 1.4 megs. Downloads constantly fail. What can one do to remedy this? I'm ready to take hostages.

Surely that attenuation is a load of ****.
 
Well im on Tin Road in Bromhof. Im getting 4Mbps Speeds, tried to bump the line up to 6Mbs but it screwed the line up and had to get a technician out to fix it. Rarely ever get over 300 Kbs though.
How can i found out what exchange im on exactly?

I'm moving into a complex on Bromhof road next month (right behind the woolies/keg center).

Apparently the unit does not have a telkom line, you guys think this will be a problem to get ADSL? I cant go wireless because its absolute crap. I want 10mb :(
 
Fantastic :p i checked on the exchange website, im gonna be about 700m away from the exchange which is rad :)

hope they can install a telephone into the complex. I'll hate them if they cant
