Hi guys,

I need help with deciding where to go next year... I am currently doing matric and I am really into going for IT. I just can't decide on a good course to follow. I would like some info on the Bsc IT course. I see that Tuks has it. But I can't seem to find on some of the other universities website's like Stellenbosch where I'd like to go.

Also are there any other good courses that I can follow. A friend is doing the Bsc Computer Science and I don't have a clue what the difference is.

I can mention that I am interested in going overseas when I complete my studies so anything that helps in that matter is also good.

Thanks in advance

What are your interests? Why computer science? Are you hands on or prefer dreaming up theories? How good is your math? What about a mixture of engineering and computer science?

WITS as a Computer science degree - http://www.cs.wits.ac.za/ (you'll have to hunt for the subjects)
The WITS Electrical and Information Engineering school have some interesting degrees - http://www.eie.wits.ac.za/undergrad-program

I wouldnt mind doing the Bio Med one.

I think its good to mix it up with another field - like BCom. I have a BSC IT degree where I did Accounting and Economics.
You can also do Computer Science with Geology.
There's enough programmers out there - its good to have a major in another field to set you apart.

Accounting is good but so boring :p I agree on mixing it up on another field as it will come in quite handy if you do "programming" work in that field. And I am using programming loosely here because its not just your standard desktop and web based applications that's being written here.

I did a BSc IT at old UPE.

Took the scenic route to complete it but nevertheless, it has brought me to where I am today.

I preferred this degree to the Comp Sci degree because it was a combination of IT and business. I majored in IT and Business Management which has given me a great springboard to my career.

What set my degree apart from all the other Comp Sci was that I could relate to business needs compared to the Comp Sci guys who wanted to calculate solutions, lol.

I started out in IT Security, enjoyed it b currently doing something different.

What is important for you, the OP, is to consider what you want to do - Programming, Solutions Design, IT Project Management, ITSec...etc.

Good luck
