One of my PC's has this issue. When it is switched on for the first time, it loads Windows (7) and just after the logo animation, the screen goes black for a while with the arrow cursor showing and proceeds with a BSOD with a physical memory dump message. The message appears really fast and the machine reboots instantly. It then proceeds to load Windows without a problem (besides the usual message that the computer was not shutdown properly). After that, the machine is fine. Games run fine... everything seems ok. Reboot the machine, and it does the same thing... BSOD... reboots itself and loads Windows again. Consistently.

I have swapped out RAM from another machine and it still does the same thing. So I have counted out RAM. What else could cause this all of a sudden?

Disable the "Automatic restart" by going to your Computer's Properties (which you get when you right-click My Computer and selecting Properties) -> Advanced system settings (on the left pane) -> Advanced tab -> Startup and Recovery's Settings, and now uncheck the "Automatically restart" option.

You can download and run BlueScreenView to get the details of the previous BSOD's. This utility should show you what driver caused the issue.

Questions I have for you:
a) Are you overclocking at all?
b) What is your system specs (brand and models if you can): CPU, RAM, motherboard, graphics, HDD/SSD & PSU
c) Have you updated your Windows 7 to SP1 and ensure that all the latest updates are installed? Don't install hardware drivers via Windows updates.

The past few weeks I've been having issues where my PC stalls on the Windows boot screen where you see the Windows logo shining. Sometimes I just reset the PC and then it goes into Windows - where as other times I had to disconnect & connect the SATA cable again, which I now suspect of being broken.

It's a basic old machine I set up for the kids to use. Core2Duo E7400 CPU, 4GB Kingston RAM, Gigabyte MB G31M-ES2C, WD SATA HDD & AMD 6670 Graphics Card. (PSU = 570w) This machine has run without problems for the last couple of years and has all the basic updates installed. SP1 is not installed though. The problem may have started after an update ... come to think of it.
