I having recently started getting blue screen problems. It happens randomly, not linked to any specific action. It happens after a period of time, I think, because every time I leave my computer on all night then in the morning it has restarted (from BSOD). It has happened during a game as well. I checked all my cabling. Its a quick blue screen, I don't have time to read it, but it says something about physical memory dump.

Solving BSOD issues can be quite hard. As a starting point: boot a live Ubuntu disk and run memtest86+. If reinstalling Windows is a nonissue to you, you can also try that.

you can also change the startup and recovery options to stop windows from rebooting after a BSOD. This will leave the error on your screen so you can see what it says. On XP it's under the system properties (right click my computer and choose properties) -> advanced -> startup and recovery settings. Untick the automatically restart box. On vista/7 you'll need to google where, I hate that OS so I havn't bothered to look it up yet ;)

About 90% of BSODs are hardware or driver related. The actual error will usually indicate what type of hardware it is. e.g. if it lists a dll related to graphics then you know it's probably either the card or the drivers for the card.

Overheating is also frequently a cause for bluescreens.

If the dll/error message is different on each bluescreen then it's very likely your ram.
