Guys

Something went horribly wrong last night .... on my son's PC.

When I plug in his Logitech Chillstream gamepad (xbox config) I get a blue screen and pc restarts.

Any ideas on what could be causing it? Have had the gamepad for about a year now and never gave this problem.

Running XP SP3.

Tried reinstalling driver for gamepad - same problem.

Reinstalled drivers and tried it on different port - same problem.

Tried it on my work pc and seems to work fine - only no games to test it on.

System restore will be my last resort as I install a few apps since my last restore point that I do not want to lose (schelp factor)....

well start in safe mode and plug it in again.See if you still get a bsod. Also on the next reboot go back F8 menu and select no restart, sorry i am thinking of vista...in xp go to my computer then propertys and advanced and check there to not restart pc on system error..
Sorry i forgot but its in there somewhere,to much vista nad win7 these days:D

What we need to see is what that bsod error is,Please untwist the controllers cable to.
GO to administrator tools in control panel and go to error reports logs and check the logs about the error and post that here. Not all of them just the ones that occured at the specific time date.

Can also be the cable.

Reason why - in an effort to tidy up some cabling, I cable-tied an USB cable to a table leg (but too tight) and the PC bluescreened, even when I cut the cable tie. Cable got damaged somehow and causes the bluescreens.

Chucked it away and got another cable.

yes those cables twist and causes K@K sometimes.I had my share of genius gamepad errors.

power issue

It could be a power issue - if you've got too many usb peripherals sucking the power from your board, it can make the mobo malfunction.

Try unplugging your other usb devices that aren't essential and try it then.

Or set them to maximum power in control panel and disable them to save power:)

OK ... an update ...

I installed a demo game from the logitech driver cd at my work pc and the gamepad works ... so that eliminates the gamepad.

I will check out the log as mentioned here ... first I must find it ... never check those logs before.

I suspect it was caused by a game that I installed for him yesterday ... spiderman friend or foe.

I uninstalled the game and the problem was still there .... hopefully I can sort this out tonight cos my boy is mighty disappointed ... he thinks he broke the PC since he was pestering me to install the game.

Remember you need to get rid of all traces of the driver before doing it all over again.Google for some free driver uninstaller software.WHen you do find some let me know.:D
