BT Openreach has introduced new local loop unbundling prices designed to make it cheaper for Internet service providers to move their customers on to unbundled services.

LLU operators will get from a 27 per cent reduction in the price for migrating end customers in bulk from BT Wholesale's broadband products.

Openreach has also announced the introduction of a new mass migration product priced at 21 per cent less than the charge for migrating a single user. In addition, LLU operators will now be able to offer new customers the chance to keep their BT phone number at a cost of just 49p to the operator.

'We are fully committed to making LLU a success,' said Anne Heal, managing director Sales, Products and Marketing, Openreach. 'This pricing reduction, along with the introduction of a new mass migration product and the ability to transfer a customer's telephone number, will make it simpler for customers to move between operators.'

Heal said that the number of LLU lines has grown by over 600 per cent in the last year to more than 400,000.

'This announcement will give industry additional certainty and the confidence to invest in LLU and further stimulate market growth,' she said.

Progress is a beautiful thing, although it's a pity that it's not as popular in South Africa.

:(

Worst part is that I know that we have more skilled people in SA than the UK does, yet nobody can do anything about the situation

:(

we have more skilled ppl than the UK?

Over 60% of our population is virtually illiterate.

Ever been to the UK and realised exactly how many idiots they have? People who don't know a tracert from a ping working in the ICT sector. I was talking in terms of the ICT industry, and the amount of skilled people we have in order to make this industry succeed and internationally competitive, if it weren't for the restrictive telecoms environment.

I spent last year in the UK, sure there are loads of dumbasses there, but there are about 100x as many here, we just don't see them here because they're hiding in Harry Potter's magic invisibility cloak, i.e. poverty.

Saying that there are more IT skilled ppl here in SA than in the whole UK is going overboard.

EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised to find there are more SA IT ppl abroad than there are here at home in SA.

I resemble that remark! The world is full of idiots and they seem to be evenly distributed (apart from TEXAS - they're missing one ATM).

Not sure it is a typo. "I resemble that remark" is a common expression in the UK (where I come from)
