I'm trying to help my mother find a new phone. Would prefer it to be an Android device as she already has a Nexus tablet, so the learning curve won't be too steep.
Budget is around R2500. Been looking at the Acer Liquid E2 and the HTC Desire X. Leaning towards the Acer at the moment, the specs are pretty decent and the OS is close to stock Android. Any other suggestions? Any reason not to go with one of these two?

Nothing wrong with the E2 duo : near stock Android, have just received a update and I see the price have gone down to R2200.

Samsung Galaxy S3 mini is a great little phone.

You can pick one up on Gumtree for R2000 or less, and very capable.

That Acer seems like a great phone for the price. The quad-core should make it more responsive than most phones in that range, and your mom likely won't be using a bunch of apps so 4gb internal is good enough. It doesn't seem like the build quality is bad, but read some reviews if you haven't already. (http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Acer-Liquid-E2-Review_id3319)

So far I can see no Problems with its build quality but remember it does not have gorilla glass so don't remove the screen protector.
