Hi Guys

I'm looking at the following options and would like to know which is the most fuel efficient and also cheap to service and maintain. Also want something that is reliable.

Kia Rio 1.2
Honda ballade 1.5
Toyota corolla 1.4 impact
Polo vivo blue line
Polo vivo trend line

I see that the kia and Honda come with a service plan while the polos don't. From a pricing perspective the polo seems to be the cheapest. I'm probably going to be doing a lot of mileage so the service plan won't last long anyway. I'm looking for the cheapest option in terms of total cost of ownership

The Vivo is the cheapest to maintain out of the above listed.
Honda, Toyota and Rio are all very reliable.
Ballade has a estimate fuel consumption of 7,6 L 100/km, Rio 1.2 estimate of 6,5 L 100/km.
Corolla 1.3 7.0 L 100/km, 1.4 7,8 L 100/km. Vivo has a estimate of from 6,5 - 7,6 L/ 100 km depending on which model.

I'd suggest the Ballade then, though if it's going to be a high mileage rep-mobile I'd looking at getting a low-mileage demo with balance of plan. That was you save a bit on the initial depreciation hit.

What's your budget?

Ballade is a nice car, I have recommended it to a few people, the three that did buy it are very happy with it. You'll also find Honda gives very fair trade-in prices on your current car.

Not the dealerships in JHB. I've had more than my fair share of Honda dealers offer me lower than book trade value on my vehicles.

Honda Midrand offered me less than R40,000 (Book trade was R48,000) on a Civic I ended up selling at a giveaway price of R65,000 (and that they admitted would sit on their floor for R80,000). Honda Sandton offered me just over R40,000 for the same car a month earlier.

Honda Sandton also offered me R60,000 trade for my Accord last year (also below Book trade AFAIK), knowing full well that it was an incredibly clean, low mileage example that they would put on the floor for R110,000 and sell within a day. I got offered over R100,000 for it in a private sale a year later, though it eventually ended up going to my sister for a nice family discount.

I know they have to make money and know that offers of less than book for cars that need work are sometimes justified, but don't try to offer me lower than Book for a near-perfect example that you're going to sell for DOUBLE two days later.

Ballade is by far the best of those mentioned.

I got 6.4 with my Ballade.
