Hi all,

I am in the market for a new laptop, in say the R12K-R13K range. I would mainly use it for work and listen to music / watch movies on a 2nd 23" FHD monitor.

And I would like to play the occasional modern game from time to time.

Any recommendations? I prefer decent brands. In the past, my Lenovo's, Dells, Samsungs and MSI's have all served me well. I might consider ASUS, but not too fond of Acer, Fujitsu, and the likes.

No such thing exists in your price range.

Maybe define which games you want to play and we can take it a bit further.

Agree to disagree, light gaming, easily achievable on a lappy with a 1050, even the old Gen 960m can get some decent gaming.

Perhaps @Flashgear can give you some options, always has amazing deals.

Yea, I didn't think of that ;)

I haven't played games in a long time but used to enjoy Modern Warefare [1-4], Half Life 1 and 2, Dota, Fallout 3 and 4, etc. Have played Battlefield some time ago as well. Would like to give Pubg or the likes a go.

I had the same budget a few months back and got a very nice second hand deal here on the classifieds section from Flashgear. A R22K laptop for 12K. Very happy with it. If you can wait and watch the classifieds here and on carbonite for a bit you may pick up as nice a deal.

Go second hand.

but you don't always get a good 2nd hand deal?

So in the case of the one I bought I turned it on first to check it was at least operational, and I also got a DELL, which it a very reliable brand with decent maintenance in SA. Like I said, it was a great deal. There is certainly more risk going second hand but you can get huge discounts that way. My laptop new was almost double the price for instance.

Check the forum for Evetech threads before you purchase from them.
