Greetings!

I have a budget of R6000 and would like to buy a new computer. The computer will predominantly be used for gaming. I had some time on my hands and started working on a few builds.

Concept 1 - Intel

Coolermaster Elite 310 (Computer Case) R343.03
Coolermaster RS550 550 W (Power Supply) R645.43
Intel DH67CL "Cold Lake" LGA1155 Dual-Channel DDR3 PCI-E x16 R924.36
Corsair XMS3 TW3X4G1333C9A 2x2GB DDR3-1333 (Memory) R560.70
Intel Core i5-2400 Quad-Core LGA1155 3.1GHz R1660.89
Seagate ST3250312AS Barracuda 250GB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM R338.53
Samsung SH-S223C 22x SATA Internal DVD Writer R220.25
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD5750 1GB DDR5 256-bit PCI-E x16 R1215.29

Total : R5908.48

Concept 2 - AMD

Coolermaster Elite 310 (Computer Case) R343.03
Coolermaster RS550 550 W (Power Supply) R645.43
Asus M4A78LT-M AM3 (Motherboard) R763.02
Corsair XMS3 TW3X4G1333C9A 2x2GB DDR3-1333 (Memory) R560.70
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Quad-Core AM3 3.2Ghz Black Edition R1519.44
Seagate Barracuda 500 Gb (Hard Drive) R372.92
Samsung SH – S223C 22X (DVD Drive) R222.98
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD5750 1GB DDR5 256-bit PCI-E x16 R1215.29

Total : R5642.81

Any advice will be appreciated. Apparently the Intel system is the fastest but I would like to get some input from you guys.

Thank you :)

If I was you i'd get a better graphics card! please!
You can get a nice corsair PSU for cheaper than that coolermaster.

Where did ya get your pricing from?
go to wootware, prophecy and rebeltech and build up each of these computers in your cart.

Intel is better but you don't need that good a CPU if you getting such a cheap GPU...

EDIT: i'll build you up a PC now

Total R5 970.64
That intel mobo is alright, I'd prefer an asus but you'll have to pay more. It should serve you well non the less.

2nd EDIT: Basically ya, what Pada said :)

Update

I am going to keep the Coolermaster Power Supply. I am buying everything from Prophecy and the price difference between the Corsair and the Coolermaster is only a few cents.
Pada, you recommended that I scale down to an i5 2300 but it is just a R100 difference and according to cpubenchmark.net the i5 2400 scores 6,085 while the i5 2300 scores 5,423 on CPU Mark. For R100 that is a nice performance boost?

Would it hurt my computer if I got cheaper RAM,so that I can perhaps bump up my Graphics card?

My vote definitely goes to the Intel PC.

You can get away with a cheaper PSU, like the CX500 or even CX430.

You might want to scale down on the CPU to an i5 2300 and then go for an HD 6850 for around R1600 or like a Sapphire HD 5770 1GB Vapor-X @ R 1,332.00.

Here's another thread where Staple asked for a gaming PC quote with a budget of also R6k: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/320589-Quote-for-PC-R6000

+1

And Prophecy do cheap VTX3D graphics cards too don't they? Definitely get a 6850, with the Corsair CX430.

The CM PSU is overkill and overpriced. Get the Corsair CX430, only costs R450. Bargain of the year! Corsair CX series are in another league compared to CM Extreme Power series. The EP PSU's are not very good at all. AND they only have a 2 year warranty, compared to the Corsair's 3 year. It's a no brainer.

Would it hurt my computer if I got cheaper RAM,so that I can perhaps bump up my Graphics card?

No, get the Corsair value RAM. Also agree with 1 x 4GB with the idea of 2 x 4GB in the future. Better than 4 x 2GB.

Alright,I will keep the i5 2400 CPU. Will the 430W be enough for my computer though?
I might use an ASUS motherboard. Asus P8H61 LGA1155 Dual-Channel DDR3 (New B3 Sandybridge) CrossFireX T R886.01. Can you please explain to me what is Crossfire? I thought it is when you add two ATI cards but I only see on PCI-E slot?

Any feedback on the motherboard?

Yip, will be plenty power for 1 x HD6850 (which we suggest you get because the PC's for gaming and it's heaps ahead) or cards below.

Crossfire is running 2 x ATI cards in 2 x PCI-E slots. I wouldn't bother with this. If you don't need SATA6G/USB3, then that mobo is great. Far better than the Intel.

Everything is from Prophecy except the Club 3D Radeon HD 6850. I will only be able to purchase this system around 20 May,perhaps the prices will drop a bit but let me know what you think.
