Hi, seeing as there are 100's of budget tablets on the market,

I'm looking for a tablet for a 6 year old.
Dual core 1.3 ghz vs quad core 1ghz ?

Some options that I had a look at:

Vodacom smart tab 2. +- R900

Fondi +- R550

Lenovo

Blackweb - dion wired brand

Cheap Android tablets are utterly useless. Off that list I would go for the Vodacom one though

I think this is the cheapest deal on the Vodacom Smart Tab 2 and includes a free screen protector, gel case, a R10 000 Top Dog Educational voucher and R300 airtime (expires after 1 week). Hi-Online is the online cellular retailer of The Foschini Group. I think the Smart Tab 2 is a rebranded Alcatel Pixi 4 (7) manufactured by TCL.

Some other tablet bundle offers

Alcatel Pixi 4 (7) User Manual (Click on User Manual PDF Download (1MB))

Lenovo Tab 3 7 Essential - This tablet should have a brighter screen (same 1024X600 resolution), better overall build quality and longer battery life (3450mAh vs 2580mAh) but does not support 3G only WiFi. It uses the same Mediatek MT8321 quad core processor as the Smart Tab 2. You might be able to get a R150 discount if you purchase with an FNB CC.

Got my 6yr old daughter a Vodafone Smart Tab 2 last month and blown away by it. I really did not expect such a good tablet for this price point.

When last did you personally play with a recent one? A year ago you could get nothing decent for under R2K, now the newer R1K models are very impressive.

A year ago I immediately returned a R1K tablet I bought for my son as it was terrible compared to my Tab A, now I compare the Vodafone to it and I'm very impressed. Sure, it has a lower screen res but for a 6 year old (actually most people) it's more than they need.

Fair enough. Last time I used one was about a year ago. Low ram, bad screen, terrible battery and sluggish system was the norm for a low end android tab then.
