Dear internet friends

What's a decent budget webcam, please? I would prefer to spend around R1500 on it.

What's this for? Work meetings or streaming or OnlyFans or vlogging or what?

OnlyFans, obviously! Seriously, though, it's for vlogging.

The budget is a bit awkward. People normally go for Elgato (sigh) or the higher-end Logitechs that come with mini-tripod for vlogging, but they're double your budget.

Your budget does allow some semi-decent options, especially from j5 Create, such as these:

(there IS actually stock of this one, just elsewhere in the country)

That said, it doesn't allow a semi-decent microphone as well. I'd rather have crappy video quality with decent audio than decent video with crappy audio. I'd start with even your phone on a cheap mount and a semi-decent microphone.

looks like decent advice here already, just to add: the cheapie Logitech webcams are horrid (C310 and apparently even the Brio 100), drivers or something are super crappy and after a while you will have a blank or all white feed from the thing instead of actual video

got tired of doing a rain dance every time I needed mine to work and eventually chucked it in the bin

Razer Kiyo's a bit more expensive but wildly good and the extra Ringlight is great
If you do need the budget option the Razer Kiyo X probably

The Kiyo Pro is like triple his budget. If you're going to go for the far cheaper Kiyo X I'd rather suggest rather using a cellphone and getting a mic. Maybe one of these, as it's far better than anything a webcam or phone would have.

It's not exactly top-end, but good enough to make content that won't make people wish they were deaf while also only using half his budget.

Add to that a ring light and cellphone tripod from one of the Paki cellphone/electronics shops and it'll actually be more than half decent.

I have the Logitech C922 and happy with it. But see it is outside your budget.
People who use onboard mics (be it webcam or phone) generally have content that's torture to watch. I have no problem listening to decent audio in a background tab and swapping to it when there's something interesting happening, but if the audio is bad I skip the video entirely.
