Who budgets for car maintenance? And how much do you earmark?

Currently I budget R550 a month on my Golf IV GTI (2001), and haven't overshot yet.

How do you determine what a reasonable amount is?

I don't really budget specifically for vehicle maintenance, but rather just fund my "Raint Day Fund". I usually do the tyre and brake pad replacement and what not from this account too. Starting this month I will be putting away R400-500 per month to cover my service on my car, but that's it.

May I ask why every 10000 instead of 15000 kms? Or are those the service intervals?

I prefer to drive slightly older cars... :p
Safer for a older engine to have regular services. They just last longer.
Pollen filters is almost every 4000km. (very dirty air up here in jhb. :( )
Car also does a lot of short distance driving. (Stop and go traffic, etc.)
