Shared by Instagram account fuengirolasequeja, the video, which you can watch below, shows a Volkswagen Polo hatchback rear-ending a Bugatti Tourbillon prototype. The footage of the unfortunate incident has gone viral for the juxtaposition of the value of the two vehicles involved.
The Tourbillon is set to go on sale for a whopping €3.98 million, or R74 534 256 at the current Rand-Euro exchange rate. For comparison, say we take the least expensive model (R373 800) in the current local Polo lineup, that’s nearly 200 Polo hatchbacks!
Captured somewhere on Spain’s Sierra Nevada mountain roads, the Tourbilllon prototype can be seen coming to a swift halt following indications of road works ahead. The Polo makes a rather delayed effort, supposedly leading to the crash. However, it has yet to be confirmed if this was the cause.
As a reminder, this limited-edition Bugatti hypercar, of which only 250 examples are planned for production, employs an 8.3-litre V16 with a 9 000 r/min redline. The naturally aspirated unit produces 735 kW and 900 N.m of torque. The powertrain is supplemented by two electric motors, one on each front axle, adding 593 kW of power. The hybrid setup is poised to produce a total power output of 1 341 kW.
