Why not sata dvd writers?
Well for one, why use up valuable sata slots on a dvd writer?
If you don't use them they'll go to waste.
Also I've a friends that have mobos that don't detect it as a rom or just causes plain problems when trying to set up raid. Obviously it could just be a bios issue, but using up a sata slot that could be used for a HDD is enough reason for me especially if your board only only has 4sata slots.
I'm laughing at my one buddy. He wants a new HDD but his sata slots are full because he has a sata drive.
