Hey all

Building a new gaming/work PC soon - don't have tons of cash lying around, so trying to get this build under R8k:

Motherboard:
Gigabyte B250M-D3H Intel LGA1151 m-ATX Motherboard (Kaby Lake)

CPU:
Intel Core i5-7400 3 GHz Quad Core Socket 1151 6mb Cache Processor (Kaby Lake)

RAM:
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB 2400mHz DDR4 1.2V Memory Module

PSU:
Corsair - CX550 550W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply Unit

---
Case:
Will reuse old case

GPU:
Will reuse GTX 660 Ti for now

Any feedback, tips, advice or critique you can give me?

I would recommend a Ryzen 1600 over that 7400.

My recommended build:

Motherboard:
Asus Prime B350M-A AMD AM4 Socket Ryzen Micro-ATX Motherboard

CPU:
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Hex-Core 3.2GHz (3.6GHz Turbo) Socket AM4 Desktop CPU + Champions Pack for Quake Champions

RAM:
G.Skill F4-2666C15D-8GVR Ripjaws V 8GB (2x4GB) 2666MHz DDR4 CL15 1.2V Red Desktop Memory

PSU:
Super Flower SF-650F14MT Leadex 650W 80 Plus Silver Certified Fully Modular Black Desktop Power Supply

Total Cost: R7493

I'd stretch for 16GB memory but that'll put it over 8k, though you can still upgrade with another 2 x 4GB later as the board has 4 slots.

Pick RAM from the MBs compatibility list.

The above option is gonna be more expensive but both should be under R8k. Not sure if you are trying to do it as cheap as possible or happy to use the entire R8k. I did cheap as possible here, if you want more I can do different builds.

Check how many RAM slots the MB has, ideally you wanna go dual channel but if you only have 2 dimm slots you might have to opt for a single dimm of 8GB

I would go for full ATX and upgrade RAM later

I've had a full ATX board for years, and um, never used the extra expansion slots.

I agree about the RAM though. Get 16GB now if you can. Already some games, such as Forza 7, list 16GB as their recommended amount of memory.

I just find using a dual slot graphics card and then trying to add my asus sonar audio card does not work well on an m-atx. But if not needed, well m-atx will work.
