Both of these links deal with thermal conductivity. I think you'll need to be more concerned with electrical conductivity. I get what you're saying though re the oil colour.

He'll need to be concerned with both. If the thermal conductivity is too little, parts will overheat. If the electrical conductivity is too little, it will short-circuit.

definately a cool concept,although i cant help but think,what do you do with hardware that has failed and is still within warranty?
LOL imagine rocking up at Matrix or Incredible Corruption with a GPU dripping all over their floor

You should be able to buy mineral oil at a pharmacy, otherwise they could order it for you.

lol...I'm sure you could use some alcohol based spirit/cleaner to clean it off, I always clean TIM & PCBs with that stuff :)
