Building a phono preamp for a vinyl player

Audio grade electronic components are next to impossible to find in SA. I've been searching for a month for a simple inductor.

Also you don't seem to know what you're doing quite yet, a phono pre-amp doesn't convert to digital it takes phono level(100mV) to line level(1V). You don't want to convert the signal to digital anyway, need to keep the chain completely analogue or you're wasting your time with vinyl.

It's going to be cheaper, easier and sound x1000 times better just buying a phono preamp. I recommend a Rega Fono Mini A2D, it's a fantastic piece of kit and sounds brilliant.

The electronic engineers use to buy all their components from Communica. Use to be in PTA CBD, but they moved to Midrand. You should be able to find all the parts you require there.
 
You'd have a better time finding info and asking for advice on avforums.co.za

There are a couple of guys who do DIY and kits. They could also point you at complete units.
 
I have built a few op-amp based RIAA pre-amps in the past. My current one has discrete components but I can't say that it sounds any better than the op-amp versions. Some notes:

-Be prepared to build more than one. Often the first is just a learning experience.
-You will need to make a good quality clean power supply or alternatively use a pair of 9V batteries (which last a long time).
-Another component supplier that has not been mentioned is RS Components http://za.rs-online.com/web/. They deliver.

The alternative is to just buy something. The classifieds on avsa.co.za usually have some stereo pre-amps and even RIAA pre-amps on sale. Another option is the Rega unit that Scottulus linked.

The Rega is probably what you are after.

I really don't have much money to spend. I'm sitting with this vinyl player and I'm burning to listen to my vinyls on it. I saw preamps for +/- R600. I thought it would be cheaper to build one. Can anyone help to make a components list so that I can order it from RS Components. I can't read a diagram so if anyone would be able to help me out I would really appreciate it. The sound quality doesn't have to be the best. I just want the vinyl player to be louder.

Let's make a deal. If someone can help me and give instructions and components list on how to build this, I will give you a free domain name and hosting in exchange.

This is a pretty standard component list, apart from:
DCA03-12 DC-DC Converter
OPA2134 Opamp
Those two components alone will cost about R250-00
General purpose resitors & capacitors, can't be more that R50-00
Misc items,
12V DC Power adapter R50-100
Vero Board R40-00
Enclosure?
Audio sockets?
Soldering Equipment?

Components will be easy to source, but working out a vero board track layout will be tricky for a novice.

That actually is a Digital Analogue Converter(DAC), you certainly don't want to use that for your vinyl. And it only outputs via USB those pics are deceiving, is for putting phono into a computer. It also only says phono and doesn't give a distinction if it's for turntable or a microphone.
