I have an old E30(Box shape) 318 BMW which is still in almost perfect condition that I want to "soup" up a bit.

What I want to do is get a good nic 318iS motor and take it from there.

The mechanic that I and many of my friends use is a guy that builds up racing cars, he really knows his stuff(or at least way more than I do:p)

He agrees with the 318iS motor but wants to do an entire turbo (T4) conversion, this will set me back about R15K parts & labour(excluding the 318 iS motor)

He figures that the car will give give his 11 sec cars a go, it should put out about 180KW and 240 horses.

I don't want to kill myself so I'm a bit worried about the speed, how fast do you reckon this combo will go? I'll have to do suspension, brakes etc... too so it will become quite a pricey exercise but it should be good fun:D

First off I need to find a good nic 318iS motor, any ideas of where to buy and what to pay?

a much more feasible transplant would be the m30 motor, as used in the 535 of that era.
this is well documented, and will give you torque and manageable power...over enough really.

site like these http://www.e30.de/335i/00.htm all have full build instructions.
i am sure you can find a beat up 535i/735i 1978-1992 anywhere for peanuts.

10 years later........ what does the car look like today?

Dammit so how will I sleep not knowing if the car is "souped' and turbo'd.
