Ok so we have a network of aging windows xp boxes probally 15 pc's all with windows and office and a sbs 2003 server running exhange

The work is all admin.
How would one go about slowly moving accross to a Thin client TS envoriment.. is it possible to make a slow transition or do you have to jump in boots and all ?

We would like to eliminate the need for fixing scrappy pcs's and the costs of buying a 2 or 3 pcs every year as the old ones die out...

What would you guys do.... ?

Well if it's only 15 pc's it's a small job.

You can choose to move one box at a time as required or move all 15 at once.

Maybe run a small pilot with 3 users first to test things and get a feel for TS.

You either need to go the whole hog and spend big bucks on a single server or get a couple of smaller ones to spread the load.

Remember a TS box is essentially a single point of failure so you need to build in redundancy in a big way.

Look in the region of a HP ML 350.

Good luck!

Just for information purposes.
We have 2 HP DL160's Terminal servers with 1 DL380 running a SQL2005 database and it works ok. for a total of 30 users.
But then they are only using our ERP system on them with mapi support and some figured out that they can use Excel and word on the TS.
All 3 servers are connected via a gigabit switch.

But i think if you have everyone using office , your ERP and other applications Especially Firefox and IE you will need a load of memory even if its for only 15 users.
