Has anyone done it yet?
I'm wondering if I start with an ottoman, then strengthen it to be a sub box or...
Do I get sub box and cover it with foam and pleather/vinyl/materials?

Wanting to get started with a diy thingy with DLS 12" sub, sony mono amp and 12v converter. Thinking of down-firing with amp and power supply built into the ottoman.

Kick-ass idea, I'd say!

This option. I'm sure it will be much easier than strengthening and/or rebuilding the weak structure of the ottoman.
Also, the better the wood, the better it resonates/sounds.
I'd like to see the end results!

Yeah, I was also thinking of getting a "comp-style" box with port and then covering it.. might get the mrs involved in that part.. Will definitely upload when done!

I can already see someone leaving it on... finding it in the kitchen later.

Why are you doing this and not getting a prebuilt? Is it funds related?

I have a half-decent JBL soundbar and sub combo, and that sub hits quite hard and deep. But.. it being a 6", and me having a 12" DLS plus unused mono amp laying around, i thought it bring out some 3way 8s as bookshelves and put the 12 in an ottoman..
So.. like @Meelperd suggested, more for the fun of it...

Sweet, remember to post some pictures.

This is actually a cool idea really...

Just another way to "hide" the audio in the room. I'm intrigued to say the least actually...

Try to make it Bluetooth/wireless.
Would like that in future, as i've ordered a bluetooth module to accept the signal, then process to 2 amps to power bookshelves from the active sub box.

For now, i've tested all components and they work brilliantly together.
Now to get my box sorted and get some material.. or strip an existing ottoman
