Building Outside Braai

Hello,

I want to build something like this, although slightly more custom in that I will probably have it slightly higher and rectangular with an adjustable and removable swivel grid (perhaps two grids side by side). Also necessary will be some concrete foundation as in the picture as well.

My question is, who do I call to get a quote as I'm no builder myself?
 
That's a fire pit - best thing I did last year was build one.

And maybe include a drain hole for rain water collecting inside the pit?

What advice can you give for keeping it clean inside @bwana ? How do you remove old ash?

Where are you based? There is a guy in Randburg that does fire pits. Renovations by Justin on Facebook. There are photos there.

I drilled a few holes though the concrete base for drainage but you can always make a more sophisticated system. Our ground is all sand so it wasn't necessary.

I have two semi-circle grates that cover the entire area but I've never actually had to use the second one. Cleaning is just like any other braai I imagine. Dustpan and brush.

There's also a steel platform that I can adjust the bottom to the height I want.

I also heard that many holes at ground level helps alot with airflow and creates a nice clean flame and less swirling smoke.
Theres loads of YouTube videos out there showing this

I'm in Kempton.

The initial idea came from a visit to Marloth in April where the house we stayed at had this:

On the right is the swivel grid. In the centre there's a brick taken out to scoop the ashes out.

I don't want something quite that big necessarily but bigger than the half drum braai area and somewhat higher than the pic attached.

Perhaps I will draw something.

What does a project like this cost approximately? I was thinking of recessed slopes on the edges where water could collect with a downward trajectory in both directions with a low point for outflow.
 
I have one of these which someone threw out which works okay and is nice and warm in the winter, but it's a mission to clean.

That looks like it's just a raised platform?
 
This is an easy solution which I did at my mom in laws place. Unfortunately the only picture I could find, I have however raised it with another one of those concrete cylinders as well as filling the bottom as well to raise the floor. Super easy and does what it needs to do.

In fact the entire area was done with left over materials I had.
This is an old pic though, we've since added some more pavers, an awning and some changes on the "benches"

OP wants a platform rather than a pit.
 
I like the first pic in post #1
I would just add a long 120mm pipe out the bottom leading away into a garden a few metres away, this way you could just hose it down inside and all the old ash would be far away. Something to that idea.

And if the smoke gets kak you could just connect up a 120mm computer chassis fan to the end of the pipe and throw fresh air into the fire brom below to keep it from smouldering. Might work

Yes I read that, I mentioned that since the pic I have raised it and filled the pit as to raise it like a platform type. When we raised it I did not fill all the way to the top as to still give some protection from the wind.
 
Those are all nice, but I don't actually want a pit because water, airflow and the hassle of having to lean in deep to get ashes out.

Here's what I want as a raised platform, drawn as best I can.

2x grids on poles (guess those will have to be custom-made as well) which can adjust up and down and be removed completely. A swivel slide between the two grids in the centre so they can form one big grid if necessary.
