CAPE TOWN - The Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service says there have been no reports of any fatalities after a section of a building collapsed in the CBD.

Steps leading to a parking area at an internet cafe collapsed in Bree Street this morning.

It is believed there was nobody in the building at the time.

The fire department’s Liesl Moodie says, “At 8:30am the city’s fire and rescue responded to a building collapse at 19 Bree Street Cape Town. On arrival it was found that the rim to the first floor parking area collapsed. There are no injuries.”

Last week, a woman was killed after a wall collapsed at a construction site in Maitland.
The wall fell onto a neighbouring meat wholesale business.

LOL.

I used to work there and we always said that driveway was way too steep and dodgy as ****.

I parked the bike up there once and coming back down it was almost impossible to keep traction due to a bit of dust while under full brakes narrowly missed the wall at the bottom of it.

Fortunately nobody's cars are stuck inside the parking area...that would have been extra joyful for them.
