Yesterday afternoon , I arrive home to find building rubble dumped on the verge outside of my property.
The area is about 40 meters long by 5 meters wide. Based on my understanding the verge belongs to city council. However , in my own interests , I maintain this verge.

Appears that the building contractors appointed by my neighbor decided to dump the rubble in front of my house.

They must have informed the neighbor, but he never thought it necessary to contact me and discuss the matter.

Should they not have hired a skip and removed that skip and its contents?

What would you do in this situation ?

If you aren't friendly with your neighbour then call metro police in your area. Illegal dumping.

Call metro, inform them that your neighbour is doing renovations, and you now have building rubble on your verge...

I am doing renovations at home, and make damn sure the rubble stays ON my property until I have enough to full a 10 ton truck, then call a company to come and remove the rubble... It gets taken to their premises where I assume they use it for infill at other projects etc.

The world would be a much better place the moment the majority of people decide that consideration is a virtue worth having.

@OP - your neighbour is a prick. Call the authorities and report it. If it were me, I would hire a company to move it to his driveway. But I am vindictive like that.

Why not speak to the contractor? or your neighbour? perhaps the skip hasn't arrived yet.

Regardless, it should NOT be on municipal property, or in front of his property.. It should remain in the neighbours property..

Agreed. Should not have been placed in front of the OP's property to start with.

I had an email chat to my neighbor in the most civil manner.
All I said was that he must remove the rubble. I even used the words "please" and "thanks".

He says he doesn't see any issue with the rubble being on the verge in front of my property. He will ask the contractor to remove the rubble when they are done.

I give up. This is really not worth my time to pursue.

How can you be so calm and accepting of this... I would be utterly livid, send it back to him one piece at a time through his windows

Odd thing is that there are two houses on my street who are doing building.
Theses houses are within 100 meters south of my house.
These owners have skips on the outside on the verge.

I would have expected that my immediate neighbor would have connected the dots and hired a skip to address the rubble issue.

Report him...

Contact the building inspector as well as Metro police.

Fsck him, make him suffer for being an arse.

I would tell him that if something is not done within the next 24 hours you are calling the Metro cops.
Chances are it will not even be removed properly if left till they leave and you will have smaller bits of stone and other rubble in your grass for years to come.

Only reason he did it is so that it does not ruin his yard/lawn but in the process it is ruining yours.

We need pics!!

But If you can live with until he is finished then fine. I'd probably let the guy finish then make sure it is removed. Some times it's just easier to be accommodating to people in life. From the sounds of it, it's not like he dumped it in your drive way or over your new garden bed?

And this is what I suspect as well. His verge is landscaped.
Mine has grass only.

Email him back then, tell him he has 24 hours to sort it out or you will contract a person to move it to his verge, since he sees no problem with it being on your verge, then there will be no problem with it being on his for the duration of the building work.

Crucify the ****. He is obviously a complete and utter d-bag. Follow the more official advice set out in this thread first. If no joy comes from those, a morning off, a wheelbarrow and a shovel can be very therapeutic.

The guys probably a self absorbed tool, you need to nip it in the bud now. You think it's bad now?
Wait 8weeks down the line having to live with the mess in front of your property, builder's traipsing over to dump more and then the contactor does a half job cleaning the mess up, odd stones and broken glass etc left behind, you end up having to do the proper clean up, just to be able to mow the grass properly etc.

A reasonable person would ask nicely before dumping or perhaps the contractor unilaterally decided but either way the implication is the guy should be going out of his way to accommodate your concerns and reassure you he'll make it right.

Send back a nice reply and mention if the rubble is not moved and cleaned within 48hrs then the police/municipality will be notified. Who knows what they'll do but at least he'll get the picture. Don't lose your nerve and get mad, the guy will probably be a shouter who trys his luck with intimidation, let him know he should rather do that explaining to the cops. Pretty sure he'll pass the buck onto the contractor and the mess will get cleaned up asap, probably get a skip like a normal person does, they are relatively cheap anyway.
