Yep, sorry. Was tired. This is more a surprise gift for my bro-in-law who's braai is a bit the worse for wear. So a bit difficult to get exact details without giving away the surprise.

My thoughts were that it's not worth repairing and just needs to be replaced - sneakily. So wonder if anyone can recommend someone who could do this in the Cape town area (northern suburbs)?

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but while all the fireplace experts are in here, what would the costs be to build a standard fireplace be?
That is a chimney with two work surfaces on the side, something like this Photo009.jpg
I have no idea what building costs are, just need a ballpark, say R10k, R30k, R50k?

About (4 - 6) x 4.5m Lintels Prices vary from R 35 - R 100 per lintel

Facebrick bricks varies from R 2.50 per brick to about R 4.00 per brick. Looking at about 500 - 700 bricks I guess

Tiles

Labour

So depending on size I would guess anything from R 3 000 to around R 4 500 excluding the actual braai.

I would say you're looking at around R10k with labour and materials, plus another R5k - R15k depending on the braai chosen.

True, I guess it completely depends on what you want to do. Build the damn thing outside with Mampara bricks. R 0.80 a brick :D :D :D

I agree though it can be anything it's hard to quantify it cheap bag of cement goes for around R 80 a bag and he will need a few of that, coupled with sand... fark me, how I hate building :o

I doubt builders will charge that. They will load their price. Closer to 20K methinks. Would also require some roofing work to be done where the chimney exits the roof. And that's gonna be costly. But if it was an outdoor braai, then 10K might be the ballpark yes.

If it involved roofwork, then yes R20k is entirely in the ballpark before buying the braai itself.

Need to repair or replace one. Any suggestions?

I bought my indoor braai (custom made sizes and parts) from QBS braais. Epping 2 - 021 534 7988. Well priced. I bought about 4 years ago. Not sure if the contact details are still valid.
