A bull due to be slaughtered ran amok and gored a 10-year-old boy to death in Cape Town, the Cape Argus reported on Tuesday.

Ayanda Mfenku was attacked by the bull while standing in his yard in Philippi East on Sunday morning, the newspaper reported.

The bull was reportedly to have been used in the funeral ritual of Jackson Ntandiso, who died last week, but it broke loose.

"The raging bull shoved and injured an old man who was trying to force it into the yard, and it ran off frantically down the street, knocking over everyone who tried to get close to it," Ntandiso's daughter Yandiso was quoted as telling the newspaper.

"As it ran down the street, people moved out of the way and shouted for kids and drunken people to get out of its way."

According to the Cape Argus, the bull entered Mfenku's yard, gored him in the back and threw him against a wall. He died later in hospital.

The bull reportedly died overnight from shock and stress.

Ok but what's going to happen to the bull? I'm guessing it won't be eaten now?

Well, they do have TWO funerals to worry about now... so now we need two bulls.

The Ancestors must be VERY upset!

Condolences to the boys family but wow...the statement above just makes you think about the people who live in this area.

Oh so you don't have drunkards in your area? Well excuuuuuse us then

If you want to go around slaughtering animals in the streets like ancient savages you have to accept the odd occurrence of collateral damage and loss of life.

Sad it was a boy but well played on the bull's part for taking someone with him, they were going to kill it anyway.
And everyone knows that those "slaughternings" are inhumane, the bull has to bellow loudly before it is put out of its misery.

Still nothing will change and it still wont be deemed a bad idea to slaughter animals like that in residential areas.

What's a humane way of killing a bull? Is there a humane way to a killing?

I'd rather be slaughtered than go through what you're about to do to me...

Well I was about to slaughter you :erm:

Humanely of course!

Then I realised your bit of wors won't even make a mouthful :(

Yes, they normally use electric shock or some other form of instant kill for commercial slaughtering.
torturing an animal until it bellows then slitting its throat is hardly humane.
