Bulls rock Thread

Pffft.... Only one I got wrong this week. And if my team didn't go to sleep in the 2nd half I would have had another great weekend on the Bru.

Well done Bulls. Whatever was said at half time worked for you guys.

Did not watch the game :(

Was it a good game of rugby?

Was it a good game of rugby?

The start was a bit boring to be honest but after about 10minutes the game got quicker and Cheetahs started spreading the ball wide. Also some lekker hits on defense from both teams. Cheetahs dominated the whole first 40.

Then the Bulls came out and started holding on to the ball which meant they put the Cheetahs defense under serious pressure which in return opened up some gaps and the Bulls scored three rather easy tries.

Cheetahs really let this one slip. But I salute the Bulls for playing a full 80minutes. If I were a Bulls fans, I won't get too excited though. Lots of hardwork left.

So in short? Yes, it was good close game. But not nearly as exciting as the Pumas vs Sharks nail-biter.

Ah thanks for that :) Yes the Pumas do seem to have a better focus this year. Hope that injuries do not kill their competitiveness later on in the season.

And I have, as a bulls supporter, made peace with the fact that we will not be nearly as dominating in the next 3 years as we were in the last 4 or so... But with good ground work etc etc we will build a good / great team sooner rather than later.

The Blue Bulls Company Pty (Ltd) is pleased to announce that Jano Vermaak has signed a contract to play for the Vodacom Bulls in 2012.

Vermaak, who is currently playing at the Golden Lions, has signed a contract that will keep him at Loftus Versfeld till October 2013.

The 26 year old Vermaak, who played for the Golden Lions and Lions since signing on as a junior in 2004, said that he needed fresh challenges.

“I felt it was time to make a change. I was with the Lions for a long time and when this offer came along, I knew it the right one at the right time for the right team,” the scrumhalf said.

Responding to the news, the CEO of the BBC, Barend van Graan, said that Vermaak’s signature is another exciting step in their efforts to keep the Vodacom Bulls on top of the Super Rugby pile.

“Jano is world class and will fit in nicely with our Bulls culture as he lives in Pretoria already. We are looking forward to the contributions he will make,” Van Graan said of the former SA Schools, SA Sevens and SA age groups player.

Bulls' Derick Kuün quits rugby

I'm not a Bulls' fan but I think that he has been poorly treated by the Bulls for the last 4 or 5 years. I've always rated him as a good player.

Blue Bulls forward Derick Kuün has shocked the Pretoria-based union by announcing his retirement from rugby with immediate effect.

Kuün - who has won three Super Rugby crowns with the Bulls, as well as winners medals in the Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup - cited business reasons for his decision.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement, but a couple of business opportunities came along and I have to act on them immediately. I will join a family business,” Kuün told the Bulls website.

The hooker/loose forward recently played his 100th provincial match for the Blue Bulls after making his debut against Border in 2004.

He also captained the Blue Bulls at all junior and senior levels, as he did with the SA Schools side in 2002. He played at national level for the Springboks Sevens team as well as the national u19 & u21 sides, representing his country at the IRB Junior World Cups in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Kuün thanked the Bulls union for its contribution to his career.

"I would like to thank the union and company for the opportunity of being part of the Blue Bulls and Bulls family for nine years of my life. I learned a lot about life in this time. I also appreciate the amount of time that was invested in me from management level," said Kuün.

He also thank his fellow players and fans for their support over the years.

"I can only say thanks to all those players that I played with during the years. There were great times and bad times and all of that formed me to what I am today," Kuun told SAPA.

"I will miss my rugby friends greatly, as we have bonded into a special group. To the fans, a special word of thanks. Your support is very important and there is no greater feeling running out to a packed Loftus Versfeld. My blood will always be Blue."

Head of Rugby at the Blue Bulls, Heyneke Meyer, says it is a sad day for Bulls and Blue Bulls rugby.

“Derick was a true team man and a great stalwart for the union. He is the perfect example of the type of player we want to represent the Blue Bulls and Bulls. He proved himself to be a great leader, played with courage and skill and always gave everything he had. He also had an uncanny understanding of team dynamics and because of that, has proved to be an outstanding leader,” said Meyer.
